Day 36—7 December 2011
This is a fraction of an extraordinary collection of vinyl records that belonged to the father of my lifelong, dear friend, Judy. In my mind, I can still see Heskel listening to his classical music—one of his passions.
Today, we said goodbye to Judy’s mom, Suzette, who was also a passionate person. She was passionate about her people (which included so many—family, friends, neighbors), her sewing, and cooking. I will never forget the joy Susie took in feeding NOS when he was a toddler. He kept eating, and she kept offering. She had made enough food for an army, even though there were five (or maybe four-and-a-third) of us at the table that night. And, it wasn’t just volume—it was variety.
We’ll all miss her, and yet, as stories were being shared today, I recognized that so many of Suzette’s incredible traits are also Judy’s traits. She’s always been exceedingly generous and loving. She had excellent teachers, and she’s a most amazing woman in her own right. I feel incredibly honored and thankful to be a part of this family, and to be able to follow my passions.
