Of all the cultural references to peacocks, the most intriguing to me is the Greek mythology (I’ve been a fan since an unnaturally early age). Goddess Hera has the 100-eyed giant Argus guard Io—one of Zeus’ lovers. After Argus is killed, Hera put his eyes in her favorite bird’s tail as a memorial.
